Lead Pipe water service main replaced – July 14th, 2010
I called Balkan Sewer and Water Main Service based on my knowledge of the industry and some of its players in the area. The company sent a representative for a quote on a day/time I requested. Following the quote, they said the job could be scheduled for the following day, permits and all. For piece of mind I called another subsurface company for a quote. That company also came out on a weekend, but gave me a quote of nearly $500 more than Balkan. I scheduled the water main replacement with Balkan for a few days later, and even confirmed online that all permits were pulled. The crew was professional and answered all my questions. They were neat and cleaned up everything after the water main job was done.

My main sewer line kept on backing up due to tree roots invading the line. It got to the point where I needed it rotor rooted out every 3 month. I had a camera inserted into the line and was told the terra cotta pipe had shifted and I would need to replace the whole line. Using the internet I came across Balkan’s web site. Being a family business for over 50 years and having a Better Business Bureau rating of “A+” indicated to me that they were the company for me. I called to make an appointment for a price and was surprised they could come the same day. Frank arrived at my hose, inspected the situation and gave me a good price for the job. When I asked him when they could start (thinking at least a week), Frank said they could start in 2 days! 2 days later when I came home from work, the crew already had half the job done. When I asked questions, all the men were friendly, responsive, and gave clear and direct answers. They assured me the job would be completed on time (Frank said 2 day to complete), and they would restore my lawn to the way it was before. At the end of the second day, the crew lived up to their promise. the job was complete, the lawn was restored as before and they repaired my sprinkler system which had to be cut to get to the pipe. I can’t say enough about how well my experience with Balkan was! I would definitely recommend them to others without hesitation. My house got a “Three Day Notice” from the New York City DEP. Due to the water leaking out of the sewer manhole, and noise on our water meter, they determined that it was our water service that was leaking. We could hear the noise by our meter but not at the neighbor next door’s water meter. So, I got Balkan’s name from a co-worker who had his water service replaced by them. My father called them and they quickly came to investigate for free and give a free estimate. They were very knowledgeable, which matters much in this business. I asked a lot of questions as I work in a trade too, so it was interesting to me. They dug 3 small holes, one of which was on our sidewalk to replace the leaky water service with new copper water service. A few days later they came and repaired the holes in the street. A day later they fixed the concrete on our sidewalk and did a good job at that. This company has been around a long time and it seems that they want to continue doing high quality work, as word of mouth is the best advertising!
